State of the studio Happy Juneteenth! This day is to celebrate the last slaves being free in the US. It feels both victorious and somber as we rejoice over what’s been accomplished and still see so much injustice.
To celebrate, I’m offering a *free* downloadable print of this father and daughter image! Sign up for my newsletter at the bottom of my contact page and I’ll send you a printable file for this 8x10 inch print. Link in bio! Shipping this print to its new home 🏠 “You’re welcome here” I’m finding painting these large pools of color to be a needed escape from thinking about everything going on in the world “All around me”
Watercolor on cradled birch wood panel, 18 x 1 x 24 inches 🌟Announcement 🌟All the paintings from the CLEANSE series are now available in my shop! The water in these paintings is a metaphor for a large, powerful, unknowable force that surrounds us. Read more about the story behind the paintings, link in my profile 👆🏼 🍒Excited to share some new products with you! I’ve opened a Society6 shop, where I’ve created home goods featuring my art (throw pillows, hand towels, art prints). They’re having a big sale on wall art for #memorialday so go have a look! See more of my fav items in my stories 👆🏼Link in profile or go to society6.com/bethanyeden 🍒 Really enjoyed painting this portrait of these beautiful sisters as a Mother’s Day gift for their mom ❤️#commission #familyportrait Studio view today 🌞 Found the time to organize my studio, now to find time to paint! We’ve moved into a bigger place and I’ve upgraded my studio space from half of our dining room table to half of a huge room and I’m giddy about it. It’s not a coincidence that my paintings have gotten larger as my space to create has gotten larger. Even though I usually only get 1-2 hours to paint each day, the canvases are starting to pile up in the new studio with a new series. I’ll be showing more soon but for now I feel I have about 12 that are all still in progress! I think it’s because I’m trying to restrain myself and focus on simple forms, so it’s hard to call something “done”. Simple shapes in the studio these days Heartbroken and sick to my stomach hearing what happened to #ahmaudarbery 💔Heartbroken because he was killed back in February, 2 days before my birthday, and the men who killed him are just NOW being arrested. 💔Heartbroken because I know this isn’t an isolated incident, it happens often without someone catching it on video. 💔Heartbroken because I have family members who believe black people are genetically more violent and the world is better off without one more of them. 💔Heartbroken because I have other family members who I’ve had to endure multiple hours long conversations to get them to ~consider~ not using the n-word anymore. 💔Heartbroken because this man was made in the image of God, and he was treated like trash. Portrait of my sister, acrylic and watercolor on yupo paper “Seen” 18 x 24 inches, watercolor and acrylic on paper. This one was very fun to make because of the contrast of the delicate watercolor texture and the heavy bulky acrylic shapes for their hair. And because I love painting faces 🦧 “Generous Portions #3”
Letting each shape dictate the next one ⭕️ Watercolor and paper eggs to stick in our yard, since real eggs are in short supply these days 🥚 🥚 🥚 “Generous Portions #2”
Acrylic paint on yupo paper, 11x14 inches Generous portions #1
Acrylic on yupo paper, 11x14 inches So happy to receive my @intunevision frames in the mail! As well as printed lens cloths with my koi painting that was inspired by the frame design, called Discover: Mossy Rock. These frames are super comfortable and they compliment my face really well. You can see more designs and other artists’ creations at @intunevision
